Ok, ok: So my title is a little misleading. But, essentially, it’s true. For years world-famous magician, escape artist and skeptic James Randi has offered a prize of one million dollars (cue your best Dr. Evil impersonation) to “anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event.”

Any takers? Randi has received more than 1,000 applications since he issued the challenge in 1964, when the original prize amount was only 1,000 dollars. To date, no one has passed the preliminary test.

As you can imagine, Randi and his team have investigated more than their fair share of paranormal claims and, again, they have yet to award the prize to anyone. Some people — especially folks who hold strong beliefs about one or more paranormal phenomena — could easily conclude that this challenge is somehow rigged. But how, exactly? Everything about the challenge seems above the board. There’s even a link to the bank statement information, confirming that the prize money does, in fact, exist. And for more than forty years no one has been able to satisfactorily prove that they possess proof of paranormal abilities or events.

But then again, perhaps you or someone you know could be the person who finally proves James Randi wrong. If you think you’ve got a chance to snag a cool million with your magic powers, proof of life after death or similar paranormal expertise, then feel free to apply. You can find the application information here, along with the rules and other details.

Good luck! If you decide to try and make history with James Randi, please drop us a line and tell us how it goes.
